A disease is an abnormal condition affecting the body of a person. It may be caused by external factors, such as infectious disease, or it may be caused by internal dysfunctions, such as autoimmune diseases. It is usually referred to a condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, and/or death to the person. It includes injuries, disabilities, disorders, syndromes, infections.

A localized disease is one that affects only one part of the body, such as a foot or an eye infection. A disseminated disease spreads to other parts. And a systemic disease is a disease that affects the entire body, such as influenza or high blood pressure.

Infection refers to infectious diseases, which result from the presence of pathogenic microbial agents, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and multicellular parasites. Illness and sickness are used to refer specifically to the patient's personal experience of his or her disease. Disorder refers to a functional abnormality or disturbance.
